Irvine, CA – The Stanton Elks continued to build momentum on their young season, earning their second win with a 2-0 shutout against the visiting Nelson Warriors of Arizona on Saturday at Great Park in Irvine.
After a scoreless opening half, the breakthrough came just two minutes into the second. French newcomer Lorenzo Jacon found the back of the net in the 47th minute, sparking the Elks' attack and giving the home side control of the match. Stanton doubled its lead midway through the half when Jacopo Bertoglio converted in the 62nd minute, sealing the result for the Elks.
The defense stood tall throughout the 90 minutes, keeping the Warriors at bay and earning Stanton's first clean sheet of the campaign.
With their second win in hand, the Elks will continue refining their play as they prepare for the next big test — their first Cal Pac Conference matchup of the season against Westcliff University in just a few weeks.
Head Coach and players alike know that while momentum is on their side, the focus now shifts to sharpening tactics and building chemistry as conference play approaches.
