STRAIGHT SETS AT OXY
Dominating In Doubles and Singles
LOS ANGELES, CA – After a challenging season opener yesterday in Redlands where they fell to the Bulldogs, the Stanton University Lady Elks proved they have a short memory and a high ceiling. Facing off against Occidental College today in Los Angeles, the Elks flipped the script entirely, delivering a masterclass performance to win every single match on the card.
The energy was palpable from the first serve as Stanton dominated the doubles session to set a commanding tone for the day.
Doubles Dominance
The Elks wasted no time establishing control at the net. The duo of Romy Pols and Cheyenne Houkes looked in mid-season form at the No. 1 spot, cruising to a 6-2 victory. That momentum carried down the line as Paula Rodriguez Velayos and Polina Buenina mirrored that score with a 6-2 win of their own. Providing the exclamation point for the doubles sweep, Emilse Ruiz and Emili Maljawskij dismantled their opponents with a swift 6-1 victory at the No. 3 position.
Singles Perfection
If the doubles matches were a warning, the singles matches were a statement. The Lady Elks did not drop a single set across all six courts:
-
No. 1 Singles: Emilse Ruiz showed incredible poise at the top flight, securing a 6-3, 6-1 win to lead the charge.
-
No. 2 Singles: Romy Pols displayed clinical precision, putting away her opponent with back-to-back 6-2, 6-2 sets.
-
No. 3 Singles: Paula Rodriguez Velayos kept the pressure high, finishing her match with a comfortable 6-1, 6-3 result.
-
No. 4 Singles: Polina Buenina was nearly untouchable, surrendering only one game in a lopsided 6-1, 6-0 performance.
-
No. 5 Singles: Cheyenne Houkes continued the trend of dominance, clinching her match 6-3, 6-0.
-
No. 6 Singles: Waraporn (Kimmy) Muangpho provided the most lopsided result of the afternoon, flying through her sets 6-0, 6-1.
Looking Ahead
The quick turnaround from yesterday's loss to today's perfect sweep highlights the resilience of this 2025-26 roster. With players hailing from the Netherlands to Argentina, the international chemistry of the Lady Elks seems to be clicking at just the right time.
