Elks Fall To Menlo
Regular Season Closer In The Bay
ATHERTON, CA - The Stanton University Elks traveled to the Bay Area this past weekend alongside the Lady Elks for a season-ending doubleheader against Menlo College. Much like the women's team, the men faced a lengthy morning wait as the Northern California rain delayed the start of play for several hours, forcing the Elks to maintain their focus through a soggy afternoon.
Doubles Action
Once the courts dried, the Elks jumped into a series of highly competitive doubles matches. Yohann Molle and Achille Scattolin provided a major highlight, showing great composure to win their set in a tiebreaker, 7-6(5). However, the Oaks managed to clinch the overall doubles point despite a valiant effort from Oleksandr Kolesnychenko and Lemiel Kei, who narrowly fell 6-7(4). On the second court, Egor Pishchelev and Matthias Bigot were defeated 4-6.
Singles Results
Singles play proved to be an uphill battle against a disciplined Menlo lineup. Matthias Bigot provided the performance of the day for Stanton, rallying back after dropping the first set to dominate the remainder of the match, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Achille Scattolin also notched a victory for the Elks, grinding out a straight-sets win with a clutch first-set tiebreaker to finish 7-6(6), 6-4.
Elsewhere in the lineup, the Elks struggled to find a breakthrough. Oleksandr Kolesnychenko fell 3-6, 1-6, while Egor Pishchelev kept things close in a 5-7, 4-6 loss. Yohann Molle was defeated 4-6, 3-6, and Sebastian Koster saw his early momentum fade in a three-set battle, falling 6-2, 0-6, 2-6.
While the scoreboard favored the Oaks at the end of the day, the Elks showed significant grit in the face of both a tough NCAA D2 opponent and a difficult weather forecast. The team now turns its attention to the postseason, looking to carry the lessons from this rainy weekend into the tournament.
