CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Stanton Elks continued their unbeaten streak in emphatic fashion Wednesday night, taking down NCAA Division III opponent Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 3–1 in a non-conference clash at Pritzlaff Field.
It didn't take long for Stanton to set the tone. Just three minutes into the match, forward Jacon confidently converted a penalty kick, adding another tally to his season total and giving the Elks an early 1–0 lead.
The Stags found their rhythm midway through the first half and leveled the score in the 35th minute when Ben Bacdayan slotted one past Stanton keeper Gianluca Suardi, sending both teams into halftime deadlocked at one apiece.
The second half was a tense battle, with both sides pressing for the go-ahead goal. As the clock ticked down, momentum swung in Stanton's favor after CMS went down to 10 men following a red card. The Elks seized the moment in the 84th minute when Max Hartbaum, assisted by Portuguese senior Francisco Gonçalves, broke through to restore Stanton's lead.
Just minutes later, the Elks struck again. Isiah Hamelin capped off the night with his third goal of the season in the 89th minute, sealing the 3–1 victory and closing out Stanton's non-conference slate on a high note.
With the win, Stanton improves to 8–0–2 overall and remains perfect at 4–0 in Cal Pac Conference play. The Elks will return to conference action Sunday night when they face off against the Warriors, looking to keep their undefeated run alive.
