Santa Clarita, CA — The Stanton Elks made a statement in their third NAIA match of the season, taking down No. 2–ranked Master's University on the road with a 3-2 victory. After opening the year with hard-fought draws against No. 1 Hope International and local rival Soka University, the Elks showed their ability to finish strong and secure a signature win.
The match started in explosive fashion. Just one minute in, Francesco De Marco stepped up to the penalty spot and calmly buried the opening goal to give Stanton an early 1-0 advantage. The Elks doubled their lead in the 20th minute when Dani Ayensa found the back of the net, again orchestrated by De Marco. Moments later, De Marco delivered once more, setting up Jacon for Stanton's third goal of the night. It marked Jacon's fourth of the season and De Marco's sixth assist, solidifying his role as the team's engine in the attack.
The Mustangs refused to go quietly, clawing back with two goals in the second half to tighten the contest. But Stanton's defense absorbed the pressure and held firm until the final whistle, sealing the Elks' first NAIA win and proving their resilience against top-ranked competition.
By defeating the GSAC's second-ranked side and already holding a draw with the No. 1, Stanton will begin the conference with a 3-0-2 record. With momentum on their side, the Elks now turn their attention to their inaugural Cal Pac season, kicking off against Westcliff.
