The Stanton University men's soccer team officially opened its 2025 regular season on Saturday, traveling to Soka University for their first match under new head coach Vitor Gameiro. The contest marked Coach Gameiro's debut as head coach of the Elks, beginning a new chapter for the program.
Stanton wasted no time making an impact. Kael Kortz recorded the first goal of the season for the Elks, giving the team an early lead. Soon after, French newcomer Isiah Hamelin found the back of the net in his debut appearance.
Soka University responded in the second half, gradually pulling level and ultimately equalizing before the final whistle. The match concluded in a 2–2 draw.
"A tie is never the result we want," Coach Gameiro stated following the match. "But this is a starting point. The team showed great effort, and we are optimistic about the direction we are headed as the season unfolds."
Although Stanton did not secure the win, the performance showcased both returning contributors and new talent stepping into key roles. The Elks will look to build on this foundation as they continue their inaugural season under Coach Gameiro's leadership.
