One More To Go
Elks Fall To Red Hawks
REDDING, Calif. – The Stanton University Elks traveled north this weekend to take on the Simpson Red Hawks in a high-stakes California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) showdown. In a game defined by second-half adjustments and gritty perimeter play, the Elks showcased their competitive fire at the James M. Grant Center, ultimately falling 78-68 in a contest that stayed competitive until the final minutes.
Weekend Cal Pac Recap: The Drama Continues
The Cal Pac landscape shifted significantly over the weekend as teams fought for postseason positioning. While the Elks were battling in Redding, other results across the conference added to the late-season tension. Pacific Union pulled off a surprising 73-56 victory over Westcliff, while Cal Maritime fell to UC Santa Cruz in non-conference action. These results ensure that every remaining possession of the regular season carries immense weight for the conference standings.
Stanton Standouts
Despite the tough road environment, several Elks delivered standout performances that kept Stanton within striking distance:
-
Yasuhide Hino: Hino was a human spark plug off the bench, leading the team with 16 points. His efficiency was on full display as he shot 5-of-10 from the field and provided a crucial offensive lift when the team needed it most.
-
Nigel McKay: A steadying force for the Elks, McKay turned in a well-rounded performance with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. His ability to facilitate and score from both inside and out kept the Red Hawks' defense on its heels.
-
Ryan Stone: Known for his defensive tenacity, Stone lived up to the reputation with a team-high 3 steals, while also chipping in 7 points and 2 assists.
-
Rafael Gomez & Duje Srzic: Both players were relentless on the glass, each hauling in 6 rebounds to help Stanton compete in the paint against a physical Simpson frontcourt.
