McKay Shines as Stanton Elks Deliver Strong Offensive Performance at UCR
The Stanton Elks displayed a high-powered offensive effort in their recent road matchup against UC Riverside at the SRC Arena. Despite a 95-70 final score, the Elks showcased incredible efficiency and individual brilliance that highlighted the team's growing chemistry as they close out their 2025 NCAA campaign.
Elite Performance from the Backcourt
The Elks were led by an outstanding performance from Nigel McKay, who caught fire from beyond the arc. McKay finished with a team-high 18 points, knocking down four three-pointers and shooting an impressive 58% from the field. His ability to create shots under pressure kept the Elks' offense surging throughout his 33 minutes on the court.
Support in the scoring column came from a balanced attack:
-
Jovanni Tapia was a model of consistency, contributing 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting.
-
Jermaine Patton Jr. also reached double digits with 12 points, adding 2 assists and a steal to his defensive stat line.
-
Rafael Gomez anchored the team's endurance, logging a team-high 36 minutes and contributing 8 points and 2 assists.
A Strong Second Half Finish
Stanton's resilience was most evident in the second half, where the team's shooting skyrocketed to a blistering 55.6% from three-point range. The Elks outscored their first-half total by nearly 10 points, putting up 39 points in the final period.
Off the bench, Duje Srzic provided a major spark, perfect from the field for 8 points and going 4-for-6 from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, Alonzo Quiroz made his presence felt on both ends, tallying 6 points and recording the team's lone block of the night.
While the result favored the Highlanders, the Elks proved they could go toe-to-toe offensively with high-level competition, finishing with a strong 49.2% overall field goal percentage. This performance provides plenty of momentum for the squad as they prepare for their final stretch of the season.
